Learning Resources Cooperative
April 27, 2007
The ESC Region 9 Learning Resource Cooperative provides the services of a certified school librarian to assist the school district in providing library management services. The Library Cooperative coordinates the integration of the Region 9 library resources and other library resources needed to teach the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills and improve student achievement. The role of the school librarian has changed significantly since the first library standards were published in 1945. No longer the manager of a self-contained collection of print materials, the librarian has become an information specialist working collaboratively with all members of the learning community providing access to learner-centered materials in all formats within the library and from the external community or the virtual world. The school librarian also works to ensure that students, teachers and all learners are effective users of ideas and information. School librarians are integral in developing the information literacy skills found in the Technology Application TEKS objectives and assisting teachers with all TEKS and TAKS objectives.
This cooperative is extended to districts and charter schools that do not have a certified librarian on staff. Region 9 ESC is the managing agent for this cooperative. Each member is responsible for providing an aide who oversees the library media center on a daily basis.
