Space Robots in Jacksboro!

by Holly Duncan

February 11, 2008

Space Robots in Jacksboro Texas!! John Lowrance Middle School students took on the challenge to build a robot that could look for signs of life on Mars.  This engineering task is offered to students across the nation.  Students are given the challenge of working within given perimeters to build a robot that will compete in a tournament.  During each 3 minute round the robot must complete certain tasks of moving objects and going up and down ramps to score points.  This year Jacksboro sent a team of junior high students to Ft. Worth Texas to compete in Cowtown’s BEST Robotics Contest.  Students learn many skills during the 6 weeks time limit including electronics, engineering, technology, science and teamwork.  Ms. Theresa Stewart was extremely proud of coming in 6th place in the contest.  This was extremely well considering it was their first year to ever compete.  Watch out this is a young team who has had a taste of success.  We are so proud of you !!! Another example of authentic engagement in Region 9’s schools.
