Ransom Note Analyzed

by Holly Duncan

February 11, 2008

Solving a crime in science class?  Using a ransom note and asking students to find the kidnapper is one way Ms. Foster of Windthorst High School keeps her class motivated.  Students use chromatography to detect which pen was used to write a ransom note.  Students are expected to provide factual evidence that could be used in a court case to convict a suspect.  Students are fully engage in the scientific method as they work understand the concepts of chromatography, which they then connect to questions on the TAKS test. Positively perfect science teaching in Region 9’s schools.
