News Director to Discuss the Television News Business

Dan Garcia, News Director for KAUZ, TV-6 will provide information for students interested in a career in mass communications, specifically the television news industry. Dan Garcia brings many years of experience in the television industry with a focus on local news.
Mr Garcia has worked in the business for 34 years, beginning in Amarillo at the ABC affiliate. He went from there to Corpus Christi. He moved from Corpus Christi to San Antonio where he worked for 11 years as consumer reporter and morning anchor. He then moved on to Houston where he worked for the CBS affiliate as a reporter and fill in anchor. In 2000 Mr. Garcia went to work in news management. And has been news directing ever since. Mr. Garcia says, "I really love reporting. I was reluctant to start working my consumer segment again, but I am now happy to be doing it. It gives me a chance to make a difference within the community. Together with my wife Kathy we have a 22 year old daughter, Katy, who is a senior at Texas State University in San Marcos. She is also a 2004 graduate of SH Rider High School."
This two way interactive video conference will be an opportunity for students to learn about what is involved in producing a daily newscast as well as what the educational requirements are to be successful in the industry. This program is scheduled for Wednesday, April 2nd from 10:30 until 11:20 a.m. in your schools distance learning room.
