Access to the General Curriculum (AGC)
September 01, 2008
The Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA 2004) requires districts to serve students with disabilities in the least restrictive environment. Removal from the regular educational environment occurs only when the nature or severity of the disability is such that education in regular classes with the use of supplementary aids and services cannot be achieved. This program is responsible for organizing and providing professional development and technical support at the district and campus level to facilitate students with disabilities gaining access and showing progress in the general curriculum. Various levels of assistance and training are offered based on the level of campus involvement and commitment, and identified district and campus needs.
The Access to the General Curriculum (AGC) Initiative is committed to building capacity at the campus level through professional development, information, technical assistance, and support tied directly to goals in the campus improvement plan.
