Child Find/Serve
|
Public schools in Texas provide for the special education of children, ages birth through 21, who have a disability. Children with identified physical, mental, perceptual, speech, language, social and/or emotional disabilities may be eligible for the program. Children with vision and/or hearing problems may be eligible for services beginning at birth. Districts will use information from a variety of sources to determine eligibility according to Texas Education Agency guidelines. Child Find provides a system for locating and identifying children suspected of having disabilities that need special education services. This includes children not currently served and those who are receiving some, but not all, needed services Region 9 provides technical assistance to school districts in meeting federal and state mandates for Child Find. Assistance is also provided to parents seeking services for a child. Rita Reeder, Education Specialist
