Free Electronic Field Trips

As a member of Region 9's Net9 Consortium a wide variety of events can be scheduled over the Net9 video conferencing network including:

  • Sharing of teachers for high need courses
  • Dual credit and or concurrent enrollment for high school students
  • advanced degree opportunities for educators
  • Staff development opportunities
  • Content enhancement programs such as virtual field trips Click here for what is available.
  • Legislative and program updates
  • Mentoring and training

All of these events can be scheduled at no additional charge to member districts.

Feeding Fractions – Part 1 (Grade 4) – Tuesday, May 8th from 8:30-9:15

Students will learn how animal nutritionists at the Fort Worth Zoo use math in their daily work! In this presentation, students will learn how to order fractions with common denominators and enjoy a fun group activity where they will be able to practice ordering fractions. The program will include a LIVE animal presentation by a member of the Wild Wonders team! A packet to assist in the lesson will be sent out to each registered class before the program, and will include manipulatives.

Civil War: Our States Contribution and the Effect of the War Upon Our State (Grades 4-12) - Wednesday, May 16th from 8:00-2:00

During the day long program, seven Northern and seven Southern States will do 15 minute student presentations related to the topic. In addition, there will be 4 museum presentations and a special guest presenting site from England. The English site will report on the United Kingdom’s view of the American Civil War. Presenting students will range in age from 5th Graders through HS, but the majority will be 8th Graders studying “US History Until 1865”.

Handling Peer Pressure and Avoiding Dangerous Habits – (Grades 4-6) - Tuesday, May 22nd from 2:00-2:30

Our students do not have the guidance of teachers during summertime to help them make wise choices, yet we know they will be faced with possible life-changing decisions during this time.  Join us for this electronic field trip as a Camp Fire representative teaches students about the dangers of drugs, alcohol and tobacco, and how to respond to situations where harmful substances might be present.  In addition, this session will give students coping skills on how to handle peer pressure.

Why I am the way I am: Inherited Traits vs. Learned Behaviors (Grades 3-5) - Wednesday, May 23rd from 10:00-10:45

Come join us as we explore the exciting world of inherited traits and learned behaviors. We'll look at humans and of course animals as well, and talk about how traits and behaviors play a vital role in animals' survival. Each program contains a LIVE animal presentation.

Summer Safety (Grades K-2) - Wednesday, May 23rd from 2:00-2:30

Come join us as McGruff visits with us about summer safety.  Topics that will be covered include stranger danger (strangers on vacation), water safety (pool and lake), pet care during the summer, 911 emergency calls, and answering the phone or door when an adult is not in the room.

Internet Safety (Grades 6-8 and parents of these students)
- Thursday, May 24th from 10:00-10:30

Children today face more dangers than ever, especially as they become more active on Internet social sites like Facebook and Twitter.  Mike Campbell will cover common sense precautions for children and parents as well as some things they may not have thought of to keep them safe online.

Internet Safety (Grades 9-12 and parents of these students) - Thursday, May 24th from 2:00-2:30

Strong Passwords (Staff) - Thursday, May 24th from 3:30-4:00

According to a recent survey, over ½ of U.S. adults have 6 or more passwords.  Mike Campbell will cover ideas on how to make strong passwords that are easy to remember, but hard to hack.  He will also cover how to identify fraudulent emails and avoid “Phishing” attempts.
