Congratulations to Daniel Portillo (pictured far right), a Wichita Falls High School sophomore. Daniel is the Region 9 finalist for the 2017 Citizen Bee.  He will compete in Austin on Saturday, April 29, for the opportunity to earn a scholarship.  Wichita Falls High School swept this year’s competition with Aubrie Kuhrt taking second place and AlAntwan Kirt taking third.  Their teacher is Mrs. Wendy Presson.

The Texas Citizen Bee is a statewide civics education competition sponsored by Law Related Education/The State Bar of Texas and funded by the Hatton W. Sumners Foundation. The event, organized by Region 9 Education Service Center, offers teachers and regional high school students an exciting way to study America’s heritage, the U.S. Constitution and other important documents, people, issues, civic values, and skills. Eligible contestants must be in high school grades 9-12. Congratulations to Daniel and good luck at state!
