Parent Involvement - Special Education

Region 9 Education Service Center is committed to ensuring parents of students with disabilities receive accurate and timely information to assist them in making informed choices in their children’s education.  This is accomplished through:

  • Technical assistance and training provided by Education Specialists to district personnel and parents;
  • Joint trainings for parents and educators; and
  • Sharing of special education information and other resources key to effective parent participation.

Foundational parent information may be accessed via SpedTexParent Coordination Network, Texas Project FIRSTParent Companion, or Texas Education Agency websites.

Specific technical assistance is provided by Region 9 ESC to its districts and campuses during the annual administration of the Texas Parent Involvement Survey.  The data is used to document parent participation in the State Performance Plan.  Specifically, Indicator 8 reports the percent of parents with a child receiving special education services that report school facilitated parent involvement as a means of improving services and results for children with disabilities.
