Region 9 Education Service Center is committed to ensuring parents of students with disabilities receive accurate and timely information to assist them in making informed choices in their children’s education.  This is accomplished through:

  • Technical assistance and training provided by Education Specialists to district personnel and families
  • Joint trainings for families and educators; and
  • Sharing of special education information and other resources key to effective family engagement.

Specific technical assistance is provided by Region 9 ESC to its districts and campuses during the annual administration of the Texas Parent Involvement Survey.  The data is used to document parent participation in the State Performance Plan.  Specifically, Indicator 8 reports the percentage of parents with a child receiving special education services that report school-facilitated parent involvement as a means of improving services and results for children with disabilities.

Statewide support for educators and families is available via SpedTex, the Special Education Information Center.  SpedTex provides information and resources that can help you understand your child’s/student’s disability, rights and responsibilities under IDEA, and facilitate collaboration that supports the development and delivery of services to children with disabilities in our State.  Specific information can be requested by calling 1-855-773-3839, emailing inquire@spedtex.org, or online chatting via the SpedTex site.
