The Department of Teaching and Learning is a state ESC Core Services area that provides technical assistance, professional development and follow-up in all instructional areas. Education specialists support curriculum, instruction, and assessment in reading/language arts, math, science, social studies and fine arts. Support is provided in the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, the State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness (STAAR), TEKS Resource System, best practices and scientifically based research practices. The department also provides support for 504, Dyslexia, and Advanced Academics services.
In addition to content areas, the Department of Teaching and Learning provides professional development, technical assistance, and/or direct support in the following areas: program development, implementation, and evaluation; information dissemination; and curriculum extension. Additional emphasis is focused on instructional and classroom management strategies to facilitate strong instructional programs, literacy skills to meet state competency standards, and increasing student achievement. Teaching and Learning department members also provide instruction for the HB3 Texas Reading Academies and teacher orientation for the Texas Evaluation and Support System.
