The Saint Jo ISD School Board & Administration participated in a construction workshop with officials from Entegral Solutions (E3) and Harper Perkins Architects(HPA) on April 17th. The comprehensive construction project is in the final stages of planning and preparation.
“This is a momentous time for Saint Jo ISD. Our instructional capacity will be greatly expanded and the safety of our students will improve dramatically. The school district’s student growth of more than 20% has been a key factor as strive to provide the best for our kids today and in the future.” expressed SJISD Superintendent, Curtis Eldridge.
The planning and preparation started nearly 1 ½ years ago with the initiation of a full scale facility assessment provided by Texas Association of School Boards (TASB). The results of the facility assessment provided district officials with an in-depth analysis of the current state of every aspect of the district’s facilities. With the assessment in hand, the Saint Jo School Board and Administration were able to embark on a feasible facility improvement plan within the financial bonding capacity.
Curtis Eldridge stated “The outstanding support of our community with the recent bond election was a blessing. The voting support of the bond initiative made the plans to build, renovate and repair feasible and we couldn’t be more appreciative.”
“The construction plans bring all of our students under one roof and includes renovation of eight currently used classrooms as well the construction of 6 new classrooms.” commented Denise Thurman, SJISD Elementary Principal. The current elementary campus has several older classrooms that open to the outside. Additionally, there are several standalone classroom buildings. The construction plans include connecting all of the buildings on the elementary campus and also connecting the high school to the cafeteria and gym facilities.
“Renovation and expansion of the Agriculture Science Shop will be a huge improvement and asset for our growing Career & Tech Education Department. The square footage of the renovated facility will more than double our instructional space. The ability to drive into the shop and utilize welding stations on large projects is going to be an outstanding addition,” commented Katie Morman, SJISD High School Principal. The ag shop renovation accompanies a much needed new weight room for athletics, as well as field lighting for baseball.
The ground work and facility preparation is currently underway with plans for on-site construction to begin at the end of May. The project is estimated to take 18 months in its entirety. “This is a momentous occasion for Saint Jo ISD and I could not be more thankful for the team effort of everyone involved,” Curtis Eldridge, SJISD Superintendent.
