Title III, SSA - English Language Acquisition

The purpose of Title III is to help ensure that limited English proficient (LEP) and immigrant students attain English proficiency, develop high levels of academic achievement in core academic subjects, and meet the high state standards.  The law also promotes parent and community participation in the education of their LEP children.  Region 9 ESC serves as an applicant agency for school districts and charter schools that enter into the Shared Services Arrangement (SSA) under the provisions of Title III.  The funds of the SSA will be used to meet the Title III federal requirements of local plans submitted to the Texas Education Agency.

Services provided:

  • Technical assistance to districts and charter schools for setting and measuring achievement objectives 
  • High-quality professional development on research-based instructional strategies
  • Technical assistance in planning and establishing effective parent involvement and family literacy programs, parent education, and other support programs to ensure student success
  • Technical assistance in the development of a district plan for programs to improve the performance of LEP students
  • Instructional supplies such as language acquisition software, bilingual dictionaries, and translators
