Adult Education & Literacy

Welcome to Adult Education and Literacy! Region 9 Adult Education & Literacy is excited to announce our Fall Remote Learning for our GED Prep Classes and ESL Classes! Our first priority is to keep our students safe so we are offering remote learning beginning in September. Remote learning is proving to be a great opportunity to serve many more students across our 11 counties. We serve students in the following counties: Archer, Baylor, Clay, Cottle, Foard, Hardeman, Jack, Montague, Wichita, Wilbarger, and Young.

  • Remote GED Classes – all 11 counties (must have laptop or desktop with internet access)
  • Remote ESL Classes- all 11 counties (must have laptop or desktop with internet access)
  • In-Person GED Classes – only available in Wichita Falls and Vernon. (limited number of students)
  • In-Person ESL Classes – only available in Wichita Falls and Vernon. (limited number of students)

We are also offering limited face to face instruction.  These classes are reserved for students who do not have a laptop, computer or internet access.  If you are interested in face to face classes, please call us to get registered.

In order to attend the Remote Learning (GED or ESL), you will need to download the Zoom Client for Meetings to your desktop/laptop/tablet.  If you are interested in our English as a Second Language, High School Equivalency, or Integrating Education and Training, please contact us at 940-322-6928 or email us at (Para inscribirse llame al (940) 322-6928 o al correo electrónico  and leave your contact information.  We will contact you to complete some initial paperwork and training before you enter our classes.  Students are now required to have an email address (GMail) so make sure you have it and check it frequently.

About Us

The Adult Education and Literacy Program provides adults with sufficient basic education that enables them to effectively acquire the basic educational skills necessary for literate functioning; participate in job training and retraining programs; obtain and retain employment; and continue their education to at least the level of completion of secondary school and preparation for post-secondary education.  We have many partners throughout our 11 counties of the North Texas Workforce Board and continually seek to build new partnerships to improve our services to communities and provide our classes at no cost to the students. 

Adult Education and Literacy Program Services provide the following:

  • Adult Basic Education and Literacy (ABE)
  • Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency Preparation (formally GED) Classes (HSE)
  • Academic Work-Based Readiness and Life Skills (Workplace AEL and Preparation Activities)
  • Integrated Education and Training (IET)
  • Integrated English Literacy and Civics Education (IETCE)
  • College & Career Readiness Classes (Transitions)
  • Financial Literacy

To deliver education, workforce, and post-secondary education and training transition outcomes for students through innovative service delivery and partnerships that result in efficiencies, alignments, and accountability.


To promote and support a responsive and accountable system that creates value and supports local solutions to addressing the educational and workforce development needs of Adult Education and Literacy (AEL) customers, businesses, and community stakeholders. 


To support increases in employment, postsecondary education and training transition, skill gains, and secondary completion through demonstrated approaches that integrate system services and leverage community partnerships.
