Michelle Lowrey, a science teacher at Graham High School, Graham ISD, has been named the 2018 Region 9 Secondary Teacher of the Year and Breann Spivey, an elementary teacher at Graham Elementary, Graham ISD, has been named the 2018 Region 9 Elementary Teacher of the Year. The announcement was at the Regional Awards Luncheon at Region 9 ESC on Tuesday, August 2nd.
On, the Region 9 honorees travel to Austin where they will be honored for their accomplishments.
Both winners have been submitted to the state for the semi-finalists judging. Two panels of judges – one for elementary and another for secondary will meet in Austin to review the written applications of the semi-finalists and select three finalists for Elementary Teacher of the Year and three for Secondary Teacher of the Year. We will know the results the week of August 7th, 2017.
The final judging is on. The six finalists will travel to Austin where a panel of judges composed of representatives of educational administrator associations, a member of the State Board of Education and former Texas Teachers of the Year will interview them. The panel will choose the two state winners and designate one to represent Texas in the National Teacher of the Year Contest. TASA will announce the winners the week following the interviews.
