Region 9 Highlights Free Adult Education Programs

The Adult Education and Literacy (AEL) program at Region 9 Education Service Center was recently featured on KFDX/KJTL/TexomasHomepage to remind Texoma residents about the wide array of free educational and career preparation programs available across the region.
Adult Education and Literacy Coordinator Xochitl Pruit emphasized that age should never be a barrier to setting new goals or pursuing higher learning.
"You’re never too old to go back to school, to get that GED, to move on to a better career, or to get a certificate training," Pruit shared during the interview. "You can’t go wrong with going back and getting that GED if you haven’t gotten it."
Core Pathways Offered
All AEL programs feature monthly open enrollment and flexible scheduling to accommodate adult learners balancing work, family, and other daily commitments:
-
GED & High School Equivalency: Tuition-free coursework covering essential subjects to prepare students for official high school equivalency testing.
-
English as a Second Language (ESL): Interactive language instruction designed to improve English reading, writing, and conversational skills for everyday life and work.
-
College & Career Preparation: Skill-building programs tailored to help learners transition seamlessly into workforce roles, vocational credentials, or higher education.
Strong Community Partnerships
Region 9 works hand-in-hand with key local organizations to ensure students receive comprehensive support both during and after their coursework. Partnerships with Workforce Solutions North Texas, Vocational Rehab, and Vernon College help students navigate clear paths from earning a GED to enrolling in college or starting certificate training programs.
